How to Choose Matched Gemstone Layouts

A "matched" or "layout" gemstone set is a group of loose stones selected together for consistent color, size and cut — so a jeweler can set them in a ring, earring pair, bracelet or necklace without re-sorting or re-matching stones themselves.

What "calibrated" means

What to look for in a matched layout

Zehra Gems grades its own stones using terms shown on every listing, including quality descriptors such as Excellent or Good cut, and clear labeling of Natural stone type and Heat Treatment status where applicable. When buying a layout, check that the listing states the piece count, size range (such as a minimum and maximum measurement across the strand), and total carat weight.

Common layout types

Ring and eternity band layouts, earring pairs, bracelet strands, and necklace layouts are the most common formats. Gradient ("ombre") layouts transition gradually between shades, while uniform layouts keep one consistent color throughout.
